After working on the Heavy Metal Arcade interface, I decided to start a new project for the Retrocade Arcade cabinet. This is the brother to the Heavy Metal Arcade – they were built at the same time.

Regular Windows icons are just too small and blurry on a television, so I made some new icons that are LARGE enough to see – how could you miss them. Yes, those enormous things floating around the bottom of the screen are icons.

I’ve been working on a new front end for the Arcade Cabinet. With several thousand arcade and console games to choose from, I needed to work on a better way to organize the games.

Since the Heavy Metal Arcade is a tribute to the coolest movie ever , I decided to include about 60 random audio clips from the movie to the interface.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like when you hover over the link to LaserDisc games. I used Dirk the Daring from Dragon’s Lair to represent the LaserDisc genre.

A few years back, and friend and I got into retro-game emulation and we wanted to build an arcade cabinet. We built two cabinets at the same time, and spent several weeks (working on weekends) working on them. Being huge fans of the 1981 movie “Heavy Metal”, we wanted the design to reflect the art and style of the movie. Many weeks (read dollars) later, the cabinets were finished.
